Media Release
Book Launch of Paperback edition of Jinnah: Bharat Vibhajan Ke Aine Mein by Jaswant Singh

January 30th 2010, New Delhi: Jaswant Singh will be launching the paperback edition of his controversial bestselling book Jinnah: Bharat Vibhajan Ke Aine Mein, on the inaugural day of the 19th World Book Fair at the Rajpal & Sons pavilion, Hall 12A, Pragati Maidan on Saturday, 30th of January, 2010 at 5:00pm. Jaswant Singh has written a foreword exclusively for the Hindi paperback edition in which for the first time, he shares his feelings about the turbulent events which followed the release of the book on August 17, 2009. The foreword talks about Jaswant Singh’s unceremonious expulsion from the Bhartiya Janta Party, his isolation by the senior party leadership, and the subsequent leadership crisis in the party. The book launch will be followed by a media interaction session which would be a great opportunity to quiz Jaswant Singh about his views on the controversy his book generated, the disarray in the BJP, and his plans for the future.

About the book
The partition of India in 1947 has without doubt been the most wounding trauma of the 21st century. It has seared the psyche of four generations of this subcontinent. Why did this partition take place at all? Who was responsible – Jinnah? The Congress party? The British? Jaswant Singh attempts to find his answer to these questions. Jinnah’s political journey began as an ambassador of Hindi Muslim unity, yet ended with his becoming the sole spokesman of Muslims in India; the creator of Pakistan: how and why did this transformation take place?
Jaswant Singh asks where and when did this questionable thesis of ‘Muslim as a separate nation’ first originate and lead the Indian sub-continent to? Where did it drag Pakistan? And what now of Pakistan? Where is it headed? The author believes that for the return of last peace in South Asia there is no alternative but to first understand what made it ‘abandon’ us in the first place. Until we do that, we will never be able to persuade peace to return.
